July 15, 2024 – Tree Stewardship Workday – Volunteers came out to add deer guards to newly planted trees in the Halfmoon Creek watershed! Deer guards can be added to protect young trees in areas with high deer pressure. Bucks are known to rub their antlers on the trunks of trees, known as buck rub, which can be detrimental to young trees. Thank you to our volunteers who came out to help us with this stewardship task! If you would like to get involved and volunteer with our buffers reach out to Jill at jill@clearwaterconservancy.org or sign up for our volunteer email list.
July 17, 2024 – A group of rising high school seniors attending the July session of the Pennsylvania School for Excellence in Agricultural Science went out to the Musser Gap Greenways buffer along Slab Cabin Run to provide stewardship to the growing trees. The students, coming from all over Pennsylvania, checked tree tubes, mechanically pulled invasive plants, and explored the stream. Jill, our Streamside Projects Coordinator, not only lead the group out in the field but also presented to the group highlighting the importance of land and water resource conservation as well as the role ClearWater has in protecting and restoring our natural environment in Central PA.
